Bike Guides: An expert mom’s advice.

Bike Guides: An expert mom’s advice.

By Heather Mundt

Just this morning, my kids and I were barely maintaining speed and coordination on our rented mountain bikes as we wobbled through an unpaved parking lot at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort.

A mere hour later, we’re riding bikes in the Evolution Bike Park, past open meadows bursting in wildflowers and groves of shady aspen trees, negotiating through rolling hills and tight turns, no longer the timid riders from earlier in the day.

And all it took was a half-day lesson via the Evolution Bike Shop and our guide, Gabriel (Gabe)...

Psycho Rocks is the Evolution Bike Park’s most technical trail and starts with a series of technical features and then fast and flowing trail until Psycho Rocks where riders must be prepared to select lines through massive boulders and extensive bridging.

Crested Butte is Now Epic

To Our Community:

As many of you have recently learned, our family has made the decision to sell Crested Butte Mountain Resort to Vail Resorts. While we realize this may come as a surprise to some, we want you all to know this was a very hard decision.  We started in the resort business in 1972, and then got started in the ski resort business at Okemo in 1982.  Growing up in the ski industry created a foundation for our entire lives and developed much of what we are passionate about today.

For the last 14 years in Crested Butte, we have developed many friendships with people...

Springtime = Pedaltime

Springtime = Pedaltime

It’s here. The change in the seasons when winter gear, skis and boards get cleaned up and put away and the two-wheeled beauty emerges. Dust off your mountain bike, townie or road bike and experience springtime riding in the Gunnison Valley, from townie cruiser days to lung busting climbs and thrilling descents. Below is our (not even close to definitive) roundup of great rides during May, no matter what your ability or two-wheel preference.

Townie Ride:

Grab or rent a townie bike and enjoy a very low key and fun ride. The first (and least lung burning) is a...

Crested Butte Best Fall Colors by Bike

Best Fall Colors by Bike

Every year around the middle of September, the incredible blue, pink, white and yellow hues of wildflowers give way to the gold of the aspen leaves.  While to many, fall represents the end of summer and generates excitement for the upcoming winter season, others continue to revel in summer activities, albeit with cooler temperatures, fewer crowds and amazing foliage.

Below are a few of our favorite mountain bike trails to experience the awe-inspiring fall foliage in and around Crested Butte.

Dyke Trail

Hands down the best trail to ride when the leaves...

Crested Butte Crested Butte Fall Bucket List

Crested Butte Fall Bucket List

The leaves are changing and the temperatures are dropping. The first snowfall of the season means winter is coming yet, there is still time to take in the beauty of fall. We challenge you to mark these activities off your Crested Butte fall bucket list before Old Man Winter returns to the valley.

Drive Kebler Pass

Kebler Pass is one of the most iconic summer drives in the state of Colorado. However, the best time of year for this scenic drive is in September. Kebler Pass is home to the largest aspen grove in the state of Colorado. As the leaves change from...

Crested Butte Outerbike Recap 2017

Outerbike Recap 2017

It has been nearly a month since “the BEST bike demo in the universe” graced the Evolution Bike Park and Crested Butte Mountain Resort. And let me tell you, the residual effects of such an event have not worn off!

Pure, old-fashioned fun

As children, many of us spent as much time as possible outdoors; getting dirty, perhaps a little...

Crested Butte Want a Lift?

Want a Lift?

It’s no wonder Crested Butte is littered with athletes – with over 750 miles of singletrack in the Gunnison valley, the temptation to get longer days in riding, running or hiking is around every corner. Let’s face it—we are a mecca for all types of athletes! But what about the kiddos? With so many different summer programs for kids of every age (that includes those kids 40 and up!) it’s easy to think that they can ride, run and ski all day like an adult. However, in order for all of us kids to stay fresh on our bikes, avoid injury and efficiently sharpen our mountain biking skills, lift-...
