Crested Butte Summer Bucket List
There’s no way you can mark all of these adventures off your Crested Butte bucket list in just one visit. Whether you are hiking, biking or just enjoying the views, there are definite must-dos for everyone in Crested Butte before the temperature drops.
Hike Aspen to Crested Butte
The hike from Aspen to Crested Butte is worthy of any outdoor enthusiasts’ bucket list. The summer drive between the two iconic ski towns is roughly 100 miles and takes three hours. However, if you decide to hike it’s only 11 miles from the Maroon Bells Trailhead to Crested Butte. Be sure to hire a shuttle for the return into the town of Crested Butte, otherwise it’s an additional 9 miles to downtown from the trailhead.
Bike the 401 Trail
If you’re ready for a lung busting climb and some of the best singletrack in the Gunnison Valley, then you’re ready for the 401 Trail. The slog up Gothic Road to the top of Schofield Pass is worth the miles of dirt road you’ll put in before the singletrack starts. Once you hit the top of the pass, the climb doesn’t stop there. Continue up, until you reach a break in the trees that opens up to a wide grassy knoll. Take a deep breath, drink some water, eat a snack and get ready for a descent that will knock your socks off. Oh, and don’t forget to stop and take in the views!
